pois.world

Mark any place on Earth. Add photos, videos, tags. Share it with the world.

What is pois.world?

pois.world is a platform built around one simple idea: every place has a story. A POI (Point of Interest) is the heart of everything — a real location on the map that connects people, photos, videos, discussions, and tags.

You don't upload a photo and then figure out where it belongs. You start with the place — and everything else attaches to it.

What can you do?

Create POIs

Tap any spot on the map to mark it. A park, a restaurant, a hidden viewpoint, a construction site — anything. Pick a category, give it a name. Done.

Add Photos & Videos

Attach media directly to a place. Show what's there right now. Build a visual history that anyone can browse.

Tag & Organize

Label places with hashtags: #favorite, #camping, #street-art, #closed. Keep tags private for yourself or share them publicly. Filter the whole map by any tag.

Comment & Discuss

Every POI has a live discussion. Comments appear in real-time for everyone viewing the same place.

Share & Send Links

Every POI has a direct link. Send it to anyone — they see the place, the photos, the comments, everything.

Temporary POIs

Mark something that won't last — a pop-up market, a food truck, a seasonal event. When it's gone, remove it.

Usage ideas

Organizing notes

Use the map as a notebook canvas. Drop a POI anywhere — not because a real place is there, but because you want a pin to hold a thought, a to-do, a sketch, a list, a link. Photos, tags, comments and all the rest work the same as on any other POI. Mark it as Virtual so you (and anyone viewing) can tell at a glance that the pin has no real-world counterpart — the 2-D canvas of the map is just a convenient place to arrange your thoughts spatially.

Spatial journal / logbook

Every POI now has a Logbook. Activate a POI, tap the notebook icon in the left action stack, and write a dated entry — a few sentences about your morning at that café, the hike you took from that trailhead, the gig you caught at that bar. Photos and videos you attach show up on the map the same as any other POI media, but they're also tied to the entry you wrote. Over time the map becomes a timeline you can pan through: zoom out to see everywhere you've been, zoom in to read what you wrote. Your cross-POI feed lives at /logbook.

No account needed

Browse, create POIs, upload media, comment, add tags — all without signing up. Your contributions are tracked by your device. Create an account when you want ownership and extended features.

Map icons

POI icons on the map come from three open-source icon sets, self-hosted on pois.world (no external CDN calls at runtime):

Overpass (OpenStreetMap) POIs render with Maki + Temaki flat SVGs for cartographic consistency. User-created POIs render with Fluent Emoji 3D via the in-app icon picker. All assets are bundled with the app and served from pois.world — no external fetches at runtime.

Location first, everything else follows.
